USTA
Leagues in Middle Georgia
The Macon Tennis Association runs USTA leagues throughout the
year, with over 800 players involved. In order to participate,
players must be members of USTA. Membership costs $40 and can be
obtained by calling 1-800-990-8782 or online at www.usta.com.
The MTA is available to assist players in finding teams, signing
up for teams, and creating new leagues. Donna Bailey, Local
League Coordinator, and her assistant, Susan Cooper, are
available to assist you. (MTA makes every effort to find teams
for those wanting to play, though it is not always possible.)
Following is the schedule, subject to change, of our local
leagues.
Fall: Starting in the middle of August, Adult and Senior teams
may be formed. Play begins during the 2nd or 3rd week in

The NTRP is a national tennis rating system which helps ensure
that players play against others of approximately the same level
of play. A player who does not have an NTRP rating must estimate
his or her rating prior to joining a team. As players contact
MTA saying they would like to join a team, their names are given
to captains of teams at the estimated NTRP level. The captains
then contact players as needed.
For the next step in the process, captains give those invited to
play on the team the team number. Registering for a team is done
on “tennis link,” and players must have their USTA number and
the team number in order to sign up. While in the tennis link
process, players are asked to “self-rate” their NTRP level. The
cost of joining a team is $20.
Adult leagues are open to men and women ages 19 y/o and up.
Matches consist of 3 levels of doubles and 2 levels of singles.
Levels presently available are 2.5 – 4.0
Senior leagues are open to men and women 50 y/o and up. Matches
consist of 3 levels of doubles. Levels available are 3.0 – 4.0.
Super-senior leagues are open to men and women 60 y/0 and up.
Matches consist of 3 levels of doubles. Levels available are 3.0
- 4.0
Mixed doubles teams are combined NTRP levels, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0.
Players in a given match may be different NTRP levels, their
combined level not exceeding the team level, but not more than 1
level apart. (Example, a 4.0 man and a 3.0 woman may play
together, but not a 4.5 man and a 2.5 woman.)
Combo leagues- doubles are same sex teams in which players of
two different levels may play together, their levels not
exceeding the team level. Levels available are 5.0, 5.5, 6.5,
7.5, and 8.5.
In these leagues, winning teams may advance to the district and
sectional championships, and, in the case ot Adult and Senior
Leagues, national championships.
Matches are played at JDS Tennis Center, Tattnall Tennis center,
Mercer University, Healy Point CC, Idle hour CC, and Warner
Robins Recreation Dept.
