The Macon Tennis Association was one of the first Community Tennis Associations in Georgia, founded in the early 1970’s by John Drew Smith, Macon’s first teaching pro, with help from his “Legion of Ladies” and other avid tennis supporters.
Since early days, MTA volunteers have hosted junior and adult tournament events, bringing thousands of visitors to our city and courts each year. We welcome each of you as you join the many champions who have played in Macon along the way to tennis success!
With a current membership of approximately 1,200 and over 85 teams playing USTA League Tennis each season, the MTA is a thriving organization. Partnering with the City of Macon Parks & Recreation Departments, the MTA offers the beginning junior or adult player the opportunity to learn this great game, then to join team play at his/her appropriate level.
The MTA is involved in several events each year that celebrate tennis in our community, highlighting programs and benefits this wonderful sport. The MTA annual meeting is held each November, kicked off by the John Drew Smith Memorial Tournament and ending with an Award Dinner for MTA members, USTA, STA, and GTA guests, and local dignitaries.
The MTA has received national and regional recognition as a CTA of excellence:
